By mid-2026, more than €183 million from various funding sources has been allocated to support the digitalisation of Latvian companies. This includes nearly €13.5 million dedicated specifically to company digitalisation from the Digital Europe Programme, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
At Europe’s leading 5G ecosystem forum, 5G Techritory, companies will have the opportunity to hear insights shared in expert panel discussions and events—highlighting the preparatory steps needed to attract digitalisation funding and plan the next stages of their digital transformation.
In 2022, within the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, the European Digital Innovation Hubs Network (EDIH) launched its activities across Europe. As EDIHs operate in all EU Member States, Latvia became part of the wider European digital technology ecosystem. In September 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a support programme developed by the Ministry of Economics under the Recovery and Resilience Facility: “Support for the Establishment of Digital Innovation Hubs and Regional Contact Points.” One of the fund’s priorities is supporting the digital transformation of businesses, developing digital services, and strengthening the necessary skills and capabilities.
In Latvia, two Digital Innovation Hubs operate with the aim of promoting digital transformation in both the private and public sectors, as well as improving digital skills among residents. After successfully passing the European-wide selection process and meeting all criteria, the following hubs were established:
Digital Accelerator of Latvia, focusing on product innovation—supporting the design, testing, and implementation of new digital platforms, products, and services.
Latvian Information Technology Cluster, focusing on improving existing business processes, marketing solutions, and implementing innovative digitalisation tools.
“Digital Innovation Hubs are partners on the road to digital transformation in both the public and private sectors. Their mission is to strengthen business competitiveness and modernise institutions. The primary task of the hubs is to promote the use and integration of digital technologies in entrepreneurship, and to facilitate the development of new digital products and services in Latvia—contributing to the country’s macroeconomic indicators and strengthening our ability to build prosperity and economic growth through the effective use of digital technologies,” explains Gatis Ozols, Deputy State Secretary for Digital Transformation at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.
The hubs’ activities include conducting Digital Maturity Assessments, developing digital transformation roadmaps required for participation in national support programmes, providing consultations, mentoring, training, and informing companies about available digitalisation support tools. Regional contact points will be established across Latvia to ensure hub services reach businesses in all regions. EDIH regional contact points will be located in Liepāja, Ventspils, Jelgava, Valmiera, Cēsis, Rēzekne, and Daugavpils, and companies will also be able to access information through major industry associations.
“Digital Innovation Hubs are the place to receive expert guidance, test digital innovations, and exchange information needed for the development of solutions. Because hubs are connected in a single European network, companies can also access services in other countries and learn from their experience and technologies—strengthening openness to innovation,” says Liene Strazdiņa, representative of the Digital Accelerator of Latvia.
The Executive Director of the Latvian Information Technology Cluster, Aiga Irmeja, adds: “We serve as digitalisation guides for Latvian companies—helping them find the most suitable solutions to improve productivity, optimise processes, and become modern, digital businesses. To ensure that companies receive the best possible expertise and to exchange knowledge and experience from different countries, we also signed a cooperation memorandum last year with Digital Innovation Hubs in the Baltic Sea region, including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia.”
At the 5G Techritory forum, held on 29–30 November in a hybrid format with speakers joining in Riga and online, companies will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into digitalisation and funding opportunities by attending discussions led by representatives of the Digital Accelerator of Latvia and the Latvian Information Technology Cluster. More information is available on the forum website: https://www.5gtechritory.com/. Participation is free, but registration is required: https://www.5gtechritory.com/registration/.
