Review of the Practice Day at "Straupes piens"

Subject: Digitalization Solutions in the Integrated Dairy Supply Chain and Innovation Development

Date: December 17, 2025

Location: “Pienotava”, Plācis, Straupe Parish

Event Objective and Proceedings The primary goal of the Practice Day was to provide insight into a modern, integrated dairy production process, emphasizing the role of digitalization in increasing efficiency. The event gathered industry professionals and stakeholders to witness firsthand how data transforms traditional production into an innovative and competitive ecosystem.

The day began with an address by Board Member Jānis Šulcs, who emphasized the safety and quality standards that serve as the foundation for all technological growth.

Key Insights and Knowledge Gained During the event, participants gained a deeper understanding of several critical digitalization aspects:

1. Integrated Supply Chain and Data Sales Manager Ivo Apenītis introduced the Straupe dairy supply chain model. The key takeaway: digitalization is not just about "replacing paper with a computer," but the ability to create new services based on real-time data.

2. Automation and Traceability in Production During a tour led by Rolands Jomerts, participants observed:

  • How automated control functions on production lines.
  • How product traceability is ensured, which is critical for food safety.
  • Practical examples of data collection directly from equipment, reducing human error.

3. Resource Efficiency and Innovation CEO Andris Rieksts demonstrated how energy monitoring data helps optimize costs. Participants learned that energy efficiency data is not only a way to save money but also a foundation for implementing new, sustainable innovations.

4. Unified Data Flow A workshop led by Sandis Veitmanis analyzed the interaction between logistics and data. It was concluded that a unified data flow between production, warehousing, and logistics is the only way to respond promptly to market demand changes and develop new products.

Conclusions and Event Evaluation The event took place in a highly productive and open atmosphere. During the discussion session, participants acknowledged that the experience of "Straupes piens" is an excellent example of how a regional company can successfully implement high-level technology.

Key Benefits for Participants:

  • Practical Vision: The opportunity to see digitalization in action rather than just on presentation slides.
  • Knowledge Exchange: Direct contact with the company’s management team and specialists.
  • Inspiration: Concrete ideas on how to start or continue digital transformation within their own companies.
